Frequently Asked Questions

Why is postage so much?

Crazy, right? Well, we typed a few estimates into the postage calculator, and that’s the numbers it came up with!

Bear in mind, it includes postage AND a small amount for packaging (which we have to purchase somewhere, too). And we’d like to send it with a tracked service, so your one-of-a-kind painting doesn’t get lost.

If the the postage and packaging materials end up costing a lot less than what you paid, we’ll automatically refund the difference. (We’re not trying to make money with shipping charges. We’re just at the mercy of inflation and unreliable service.)

My preferred delivery option isn’t listed for my address. Do you mail items?

Yes, we do. Some services are not available for some locations or larger sized items. If a piece has stolen your heart, and you don’t see a suitable delivery option, please reach out to us before making your purchase. We can put the item on hold for you while we obtain quotes for the available shipping options for you to chose from.

I’m outside Canada. What about customs charges?

Any customs charges due are payable by you. Usually either the carrier, or the customs office, will reach out to you with an invoice. How much it will be, is determined by your country’s import regulations. You can usually find information about percentages online to calculate an estimate.

Are the colours exactly as in the photo?

We try our very best to make the photos match the paintings as closely as possible. But paintings appear different when viewed live, compared to a backlit image on your device. They also look different in different light. Especially colours like gold, that might be almost invisible from one angle, but shimmers brightly from another.

What are the wavy patterns?

You might have seen some wavy patterns in the paintings on wood. These are the wood grain patterns shimmering though from beneath the paint. I use recycled wood. Some if it has a strong grain, some if it almost has a flaky texture. These add a fun dimension to the paintings.

Depending on the light and on the angle from which you view the paintings, they may become very pronounced, or almost invisible. If the sun hits the painting, the visibility of the pattern changes as the sun moves across the sky.

Do you accept returns?

Generally no, unless an item arrives damaged. How we experience art is very personal and can change over time or with a different mood. Due to the cost of returns, we cannot accommodate every change of heart.

You are welcome to visit our studio to experience the artworks in person; either on one of our open days or events, or by appointment. If you can’t come in person, we can arrange a video call, during which I can show you around your chosen pieces, so you can get a feel for sizes and colours. Just reach out to set up a time that works best for you.

Do you still do Sip ‘n’ Paint events?

We will. Soon. Sign up to our newsletter below and follow us on Instagram to be the first to know.

Do you have and idea of what you’d like to paint (e.g. paint a growler)? Or were you thinking of arranging a Sip ‘n’ Paint at your event? Please reach out, so we can make it happen!

Do you do commissions?

Yes, I do. Please reach out, so we can make it happen!

What is a ‘Blind Date with a Painting’?

Sometimes I have these available in the shop, and there are almost always some on our open days.

These are small paintings, gift wrapped in paper, so you can’t see what you’re buying. A bit like the snippets of information displayed on a dating app, you only get three hints as to what the painting is like. To find out more, you have to take a chance and go on the date (in this case, buy the painting).
