Maria Schumacher

Who is Maria Schumacher

I’m an artist and creator celebrating the vivacity of nature and of colour, capturing life’s resonating moments to be shared and enjoyed.

Painting has been a constant throughout my interrupted life. Born in Germany, my family relocated to a small town in southern England, where I studied watercolours under the tutelage of a local artist.

After a few exhilarating years in London, a motorcycle journey took me via Greece, Turkey, India and Australia to Canada, where we’ve settled at the infamous ARC in Vancouver. We, that is my partner Aidan and I, our mascot, and of course our motorcycles, all living together in our live-work studio. (Motorcycle travel is my other passion.)

When not galivanting about on two wheels, I paint, mostly using acrylics, but also anything else that strikes my fancy. My work is influenced by nature’s wonders, the people and landscapes encountered on my travels, and by discoveries of the weird and wonderful on my bumbles around the city we call home.

There’s nothing like waking up in your studio, slurping a morning coffee, and being bitten by the creative bug before the caffeine has fully kicked in. So Aidan and I are always creating something, be it paintings, furniture, wood and iron décor, or hanging plants made from growlers from local breweries.
